The story behind the curves in this custom designed historic double shotgun in the Irish Channel in New Orleans
Because every design has a story… AMB2 Architecture had provided the exterior design and specifications for HDLC and designed the interiors for 2365 Annunciation, in the Irish Channel. The interior and rear porch design is reflective of the Principal Architect’s then recent experience visiting the Smoky Mountains and experiencing a mesmerizing and spectacular cavern, during the summer of 2021. Curved surfaces from all directions, lighting and natural flowing spaces were the perfect inspiration to the design and conversion of this double shotgun into single shotgun – incorporating unique moments that flowed from one space to another and one elevation to another were triggered from experiencing one of nature’s most unique formations. Constrictions retaining the existing envelope’s openings locations and framework in this HDLC district lended itself to create unique spaces, like the light well in the curved staircase. Enormous time and energy was involved listening and creating on paper the details and design intent for these property owners as they “flipped” this historic property to sell to its forever homeowners.©
